The phone saga

Yesterday ended up being a much better day than my experience of Thursday night. The 8 hours of sleep at La Quinta Inn for 105 dollars was well worth it : ) I was happy to wake up and have energy again! After my nice relaxing shower, I called my friend, Kate, to let her know I was not dead (Despite the fact I had e-mailed her that I was okay). Using the La Quinta "line" (phone), I checked my voicemail and tried to start connecting with people who's numbers I had or were able to get.

I went to the Verizon store to purchase my new phone and received some good news. Apparently, the insurance I had purchased back in December on my phone covers lost phones!!! YEA!!! Unfortunately, I have to wait 2-3 business days for the phone to arrive through the mail. They gave me the option of shipping it Next Day Air, but that would not do any good for me this weekend, as Friday was the only day I needed to really be in contact with anyone. So- I will transport myself back to the 1990's and walk around not being connected to the outside world (How did we function back then?).

I know this sounds weird, but it's kind of freeing. Yesterday, I did not feel that way though. Can you picture this.. I was on the highway trying to get downtown to meet my friend, Kevin, with my computer next to me searching for free wireless so I could send him an e-mail that I was on my way and that plans had not changed, even though he had not heard from me? Don't worry - there was construction (it IS Chicago during the summer- so I was never going more than 20 mph).

Having no luck with the traveling wireless, I got to Kevin's place and found him not there. I got on my computer and was lucky enough to send him an e-mail to let him know I would call him later. After getting change for a dollar, I used the nearest pay phone (YES! They still have pay phones- and would you believe that a call is now 50 cents for 3 minutes, but you can call anywhere in the world?). Not being able to get a hold of him, I decided to go get my haircut (see dashing picture above) and walked around the gayborhood (boystown) for a while. I finally was able to connect with Kevin and enjoyed hanging out- grabbing lunch, walking around, and seeing The Golden Compass (for the first time).

Now, the Golden Compass was a cute movie. I do have to say though, I do not feel that my demon would ever solidify and just become one animal. I think that's a Gemini trait : ) Have any of you ever thought about what your demon would be? I am thinking mine would be something like a lion, to a puppy, to an owl.

After the movie, I headed to Baskin Robbins to get some ice cream to eat with my bestest friend, Sandra (see picture above : ) - ). Sandra and I worked at Baskin Robbins together when we were in high school and early college (and yes, she knows about the walk-in freezer). You know you are in the presence of a wonderful, lifelong friend, when you can spend your night in an apartment, eating pizza, ice cream, and searching craigslist for new furniture for your friend's apartment. After our nice relaxing night together, I drove back to the suburbs and crashed in Kate's bed- but there was no Kate!? Hmm....?

Hope everyone is doing well!

I'm yet to meet someone who's seen the Golden Compass and not wondered what their demon is. Mine's a panther.

I know they just passed a law in CA about hands-free phone while driving, but I am not sure about laws regarding laptop use while driving. ;-)

Keep having fun!!!!!! Happy Pride!!
